About BoxcarData.com
BoxcarData.com is an online database service created for theater organizations. BoxcarData.com
makes it possible for all theater organizations, regardless of size, budget or for-profit status to
post profiles of their plays and people on the web affordably. For most theater organizations
(especially non-profits), if they want to adequately display their productions online they need
to be either lucky enough to have a talented volunteer webmaster or wealthy enough to hire an IT
expert to do it. With BoxcarData.com, any theater organization can display their plays and people on
the web without the need for a lot of money or technical expertise.
With a BoxcarData.com account, your organization can...
- make its entire production history available online
- list cast and crew and post photos for every show on its own web page
- list the credits and post photos for every performer and crew member on their own web page
- search shows, performers and crew members
- securely store and retrieve staff and volunteer contact information
- create and assign users to assist with data entry
- integrate all this seamlessly into an existing web site
BoxcarData.com was created by
Pat Markland, professional software developer and
community theater enthusiast. As an exercise to learn some new web technologies in 2005, Pat
created a web database software
program for his local non-profit theater company, the
Winchester Little Theatre in Winchester, VA.
It turned out to be
not only very popular with the WLT volunteers, but also very useful to the WLT staff. In
August 2007, Pat left his position as
an applications developer at
The Library Corporation
to focus on further developing the program and making
it available to any theater organization that wanted it.
